Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Newquay

When it comes to New Year’s Eve in Newquay, I have always been in two minds about how to celebrate the memories of the passing year and welcoming the exciting adventures of the next. Until now. With all of Newquay’s New Year celebrations, I would strongly encourage anyone to experience the wonders that this impressive coastal destination has to offer, including the dazzling fireworks that reflect off the surrounding ocean.

Starting with the all-important and exciting New Year’s Eve in Newquay, you will never be at a loss for something to do. From spending my last 20 years in Cornwall, my top ‘must do’s’ are now perfected!

A good place to begin is saying goodbye to the last of the 2018 sun, you will never be denied an extravagant sunset when sat overlooking Newquay’s finest Atlantic Ocean. With the wonders of the sky transforming from red and orange to mellowing shades of indigo, the occasion has a strong warming effect in the wintery coastal air. This can be enjoyed in multiple ways but as a dog-lover and keen fresh-air-seeker myself, I recommend venturing down to the local beach with a blanket and flask of hot chocolate to watch the vibrant rays descend into the deep ocean to rest for the upcoming year.

After the darkness closes in, the fancy dressed party-goers flood out! Newquay at New Year is a prime destination that attracts the thousands in their best fancy dress attire – something not to be missed! If like me, fancy dress isn’t your thing, you can rest assured that you’re not alone, venture out in your glad-rags and simply enjoy the celebration. The occasion is certainly a joyous gathering with the countdown commencing in the centre of town, it’s a chance to compare outfits and cheers to the upcoming adventures of 2019.

The fun doesn’t stop there, the party of celebrators then make the short stroll down towards the harbour to watch the impressive firework display lighting up the sky. A chance to capture the fiery sparks bursting through the sea air as they light the joy in your loved ones faces, whilst you huddle together remembering the wonders that the past year has brought.

Whether you head back to enjoy a drink in front of the fire or move into a local bar to party into the early hours, you can go home feeling like you have fully embraced New Year’s Eve in Newquay.

Waking up to the first day of the New Year and setting your resolutions, I believe that a little challenge can provide a healthy kick-start! We all hear the ‘new year, new you’ motto flying around but how often have you actioned this? Two years ago, I decided to pull myself out of my cosy bed, jump into my swim suit to head to my local beach for a New Year’s Day swim!  I can truly say that I haven’t looked back (if I did, I wouldn’t have made it into the sea). Braving the cold, my friends and I started the year as we meant to go on and made a dart into the sea, washing away any dampening memories from 2018. It truly was a fresh start to the year!

I would highly recommend Newquay as a New Year destination. There is far too much to miss and you really can make the celebration personal to you.
