The Ultimate Guide to Dog-Friendly Cornwall

Top Things to Do in Cornwall With Dogs: Walks, Beaches, Attractions & Places to Visit

If you’re planning a trip to Cornwall with dogs, you’re heading to one of the UK’s best playgrounds for four-legged explorers. Whether you’re just here for a weekend escape or planning a longer break, this is the ultimate guide to the very best things to do in Cornwall with your furry friends, all within easy reach of us at The Headland.

Cornwall is blessed with an endless array of stunning beaches, cosy pubs and countless hidden coastal paths waiting to be explored. To ensure you and your furry friends have the best possible stay, we've compiled a fantastic list of the area's top dog-friendly beaches.

Cornwall is the place to be if a cosy winter walk or a sunny summer picnic sounds like your idea of heaven. Whether you prefer a fun-fuelled day of getting your steps in or a slow, scenic wander, The Headland and its nearby hidden gems have plenty of days out to choose from. See below for our insider information on where to find the best activities for you and your fur babies.

South-West Coast Path from Fistral (On our doorstep)

Now some might say we're biased…but up first has to be Fistral Beach. The South-West Coastal Path, loved for its dramatic cliffs and ocean views, passes right by Fistral Beach. The clifftop path has panoramic views of the beach, meaning there are many photo-worthy spots (which of course we would love to be tagged in!). A favourite stop for many of our guests is Huers Hut, a historic whitewashed lookout perched above the bay dating back to the 14th century.

Pentire Headland Circular Walk (On our doorstep)

The Pentire Headland circular route is another accessible favourite. Beginning just a few steps from The Headland, this gentle loop sweeps around the headland with uninterrupted ocean views. Expect dramatic cliffs, grass paths and plenty of open space where dogs can enjoy fresh air and freedom. The walk is relatively easy, making it suitable for families, older dogs or anyone wanting a shorter route without compromising on scenery.

Holywell Bay to Crantock Trail (15-minute drive from The Headland)

For those who want to venture slightly further, the Holywell Bay to Crantock trail offers sand dunes, rural landscapes and ocean views all in one. Your dog will enjoy bounding across the iconic dunes before following grassy paths and cliff trails toward Crantock. Why not start your walk with a hot chocolate at The Treguth Pub, a traditional Thatched-roof dog-friendly pub.

Dog Friendly Attractions

Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm (20-minute drive from The Headland)

Now you can’t forget that you are on holiday too so this suggestion is one for you and your fur babies. Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm is a fun and relaxed attraction where dogs are allowed outdoors throughout the site. There are many outdoor seating areas where you can relax in the sun enjoying the most iconic Cornish cider. Treat yourself with cider tasting whilst your pup takes a well-deserved nap in the sun.

Tintagel Castle (1-hour drive from The Headland)

For a truly mythical Cornish experience, Tintagel Castle is one of the region’s most iconic places to explore with your dog. While dog access is limited to the outdoor areas, this still includes the majority of the castle’s scenic clifftop settings and the breathtaking bridge that leads towards the island ruins. Steeped in Arthurian legend and surrounded by rugged coastline.

Bodmin Moor (40-minute drive from The Headland)

If your dog loves wide-open landscapes, Bodmin Moor provides a striking contrast to the coast. This more explorative area is ideal for energetic dogs who love to roam with quiet trails and rolling countryside. The sense of space and calmness makes Bodmin Moor perfect for exploring a different part of Cornwall.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan (45-minute drive from The Headland)

The Lost Gardens of Heligan welcomes dogs in most outdoor areas, with seasonal access restrictions. Its winding woodland trails, sculptures and wildlife-rich landscapes create a rich sensory experience for both owners and their dogs, making garden visits a surprisingly rewarding addition to your dog-friendly Cornwall itinerary.

Lappa Valley (15-minute drive from The Headland)

Lappa Valley Steam Railway might just be the ultimate dog-friendly day out! Pups are welcome everywhere and will love the variety from off-lead freedom in the dedicated exercise field to relaxing woodland walks and even joining you for a paddle on the lake in a pedalo! Plus, the cafe is fully dog-friendly, ensuring refreshment for everyone.

Dog-friendly pubs, cafes and restaurants

Around The Headland, there is definitely no shortage of dog-friendly cafes, pubs and restaurants. The Headland itself accommodates dogs in select dining spaces, ensuring a seamless blend of comfort, convenience and five-star hospitality. Your dogs are welcome to dine in RenMor or our beautiful Ballroom.

The Stable (2-minute walk from The Headland)

Famous for its gourmet pizzas and cider, The Stable offers a fantastic atmosphere and welcomes well-behaved dogs. It's the perfect spot for a relaxed dinner after a busy day of exploring.

Lewinnick Lodge (5-minute drive from The Headland)

Set on the rugged coastline of Pentire Headland, this spot offers breathtaking views. Dogs are welcome in the bar area and on the terrace providing a stunning backdrop for a meal or drink. Youll even be able to see your bedroom across the bay.

Newquay Harbour (5-minute drive/15-minute walk from The Headland)

If variety is what you're after, Newquay Harbour and The Boathouse will leave you spoiled for choice. The Boathouse is home to a diverse array of independent food stalls- ranging from fresh, local seafood to tempting dessert trucks. This entire area is exceptionally dog-friendly, making it the perfect choice to keep every member of the family happy. (Available seasonally, from Easter to October half-term).

Planning Tips for a Dog Friendly Holiday

A little planning ahead will ensure your holiday goes as smooth as possible and we can help with that. Some Cornish beaches have stricter restrictions, especially between Easter and October time. View our blog on dog-friendly beaches here or ensure you do some quick googling before heading out for the day.

If you are planning on utilising Cornwall’s public transport, be mindful of dog restrictions and accessibility to save yourselves unnecessary stress on the day. Many local services, including those ran by Transport for Cornwall and First Bus, allow dogs on board as long as they are well-behaved and on a lead. Great Western Railway allows up to two dogs onboard for free, so you shouldn’t have much to worry about regardless of how you choose to travel.
