A Year of Greener Footprints and Bolder Steps
Sustainability in action: 2025 at The Headland
Sustainability in action: 2025 at The Headland – some highlights!
2025 has marked a significant step forward for The Headland in our sustainability journey.
We helped to release 773 baby lobsters with the National Lobster Hatchery (as of November). Our partnership has been a very positive one, beginning in March it has really resonated with our guests. We also hosted a baby lobster release at Little Fistral with plenty of our guests in tow, especially enthusiastic children!
In September, we achieved our EarthCheck Silver Certification, recognising progress across energy, water, waste and carbon management. Through EarthCheck, we benchmark our performance annually and undergo rigorous, in-person audits, it is thanks to our fantastic team that we achieved this.
We hosted two beach cleans along with Beach Guardian at Fistral Beach and also invested in our very own ocean positive litter pickers and sail bags from WaterHaul (both adult and child size) which guests can take out for free and do their own little beach clean with during their stay.
In our last team survey, 93% of our team believe that The Headland values sustainability, this means our team see that environmental and social responsibility is at the heart of all we do.
In our last guest survey, 75% of our guests were interested in our sustainability journey, proving sustainability is an increasingly important factor for our guests. We try to make sustainability a positive part of our guests' stay, a particular favourite is our Dick Pearce belly boards available for free hire from our reception area.
Our efforts have also been recognised nationally and locally:
- Sustainable Hotel of the Year – Hotel Cateys (National Award)
- Most Sustainable Large Organisation – Cornwall Sustainability Awards
The importance of collaboration with local suppliers and supporting the local Cornish economy continues to be a priority for us. 70% of our food suppliers are from Cornwall and Devon.
A particularly exciting partnership that began is our partnership with Wasted Apple, who are located just 10 miles away from us and now supply all of our apple juice and a selection of cider. We are also passionate about our partnership with Rescued Bee, who supply our lovely Cornish honey, a firm favourite with our guests!
We cannot wait to see where our sustainability journey will take us in 2026!
