Our Earth Check Journey
Wildflower Season
At The Headland, we’re proud to support No Mow May, a national campaign encouraging green spaces to stay wild for nature. With 11 acres of land, we leave the majority of our grassy areas untouched throughout May (with the exception of our Pitch and Putt course and tennis court).
Watch our groundskeeper, Luke, explaining what action he is taking in this video.
By letting wildflowers grow freely, we create a thriving habitat for bees, butterflies and other pollinators. These species rely on nectar-rich flowers, especially as the warmer months begin.
With the UK having lost nearly 97% of its wildflower meadows since the 1930’s, every patch we protect makes a difference.
Across The Headland, you might spot sea pinks, buttercups, sea campion, daisies, dandelions, kidney vetch, coltsfoot, red valerian, primroses, cowslips, cow parsley, and seaside daisy - just some of the species helping to restore biodiversity and natural beauty to our coastline.
As well as supporting pollinators, taking part in No Mow May improves soil health by enhancing soil structure and water retention.
It also creates better habitats for insects, which in turn support local bird populations. It also adds a fantastic splash of colour and vibrancy to our surroundings.
