Cornish Honey at The Headland

A New Buzz

The Rescued Bee

The Headland is pleased to introduce a new supplier partnership with The Rescued Bee, a Cornish organisation dedicated to the ethical relocation and protection of honeybee colonies.

The Rescued Bee specialises in safely rehoming bees that would otherwise be destroyed during removals from buildings across Cornwall.

Once relocated to quiet countryside apiaries, the bees are able to continue their essential work in a safe and thriving environment.

The result is a beautifully rich and floral honey, now available for guests to enjoy throughout the hotel.

Our Executive Head Chef, Gavin Edney, said: "Supporting The Rescued Bee means we’re not only getting a superior tasty product but we’re helping protect local bee populations, pollination systems and future food security.

We're really happy to be using such a fresh and local ingredient and it fits with the bigger picture of what we are trying to achieve in the kitchen here."

This partnership also supports wider environmental goals. In a 2024 investigation, 90% of honey tested from UK supermarkets was found to be ‘suspicious’, often containing adulterants such as cheap sugar syrups.

These imitations not only lack the distinct flavour and natural enzymes of real honey, but they also contribute to the decline of genuine beekeeping.

Unsustainably low prices make it difficult for ethical beekeepers to compete, leading many to abandon their hives.

Without active care, bee populations diminish - with serious implications for biodiversity and food security. Bees play a vital role in pollinating crops and supporting ecosystems.

The Rescued Bee’s Cornish Wildflower Honey reflects the region’s landscape and floral diversity, offering an authentic taste of Cornwall.

Beth Branigan, our Sustainability Lead, said: "Bees are such an integral part of improving biodiversity and maintaining a healthy ecosystem, it’s so exciting to be working with a local supplier supporting these lovely creatures and the honey is delicious too.’

By sourcing honey locally and responsibly, The Headland continues its commitment to sustainability, provenance and the protection of nature.

Guests are invited to sample this unique honey during their stay - a simple, natural product with a powerful story behind it.
