A pioneering restaurant and bar that brings a relaxed, theatrical dining experience to the Cornish coast.
Rooted in Adam’s signature sustainable ethos, the restaurant champions the idea that “there’s no such thing as an Ugly Butterfly, just as there’s no such thing as food waste.”
Every edible part of the ingredient is utilised, with bar snacks and cocktails created from trims and offcuts that would otherwise be discarded.
A New Door Opens...
We are thrilled to welcome Adam Handling and the Ugly Butterfly by Adam Handling team to The Headland this summer. Ugly Butterfly 2.0 will open on the 9th July in what was previously The Terrace Restaurant, adding to our already fantastic dining offer across our iconic hotel. Welcome to the family!
The menu is hyper-seasonal and hyper-local, inspired by the best of British produce and shaped by Cornwall’s natural larder.
With its foundations in Adam’s flagship restaurant, Frog by Adam Handling in Covent Garden, the food at Ugly Butterfly is bold, elegant and driven by creativity – earning the restaurant acclaim, including the Trencherman’s Award for Creativity and Innovation.
Ugly Butterfly continues to celebrate its Cornish roots and champion local suppliers, bringing the flavours and character of the region to life.
