The Headland's Road to Sustainability

Sustainability, Leadership and the Road Ahead

Climate Action Week

Veryan Palmer, our Family Director, joined a panel of sustainability-focused female leaders this week at the Newsweek Field to Future: The Sustainable Wellness Summit, as part of Climate Action Week in London.

The room brought together innovators, entrepreneurs and advocates from across industries, all united by a clear-eyed recognition of the climate emergency we're facing and a shared determination to act.

During the panel discussion, Veryan spoke at length about the Headland Hotel's approach to environmental accountability and partnership with EarthCheck. EarthCheck is the world's leading scientific benchmarking, certification and advisory programme for the travel and tourism industry and provides an independent auditor via Control Union to carry out the process on behalf of the hotel - ensuring rigour, transparency and credibility in their sustainability reporting. It's an approach that reflects the Headland's commitment to going beyond good intentions and embedding genuine, measurable change into the way the hotel operates.

What struck those in attendance wasn't any single idea or initiative but the collective energy in the room. When passionate, knowledgeable people come together across sectors, disciplines and backgrounds - the conversation shifts from whether we act to how we act and how fast.

For those working in hospitality - an industry with a significant environmental footprint - events like this serve as a powerful reminder that sustainability isn't a tick box exercise. It's a responsibility carried every day, whether through local sourcing, waste reduction or creating spaces where guests can reconnect with the natural world.
