With a self-imposed cap of 50 hotels, the prestigious collection accepts only the best independently owned hotels in the British Isles. Each member property is unique in its stature and location and, just like The Headland, most are family owned. Longstanding members include The Goring in London, Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa in Bath, and Gravetye Manor in West Sussex. Founded in 1982, Pride of Britain Hotels have been searching for the crème de la crème of hotels for generations. Unbiased and impartial, the consortium is a not-for-profit organisation that belongs to its member hotels.
Partly thanks to its stringent approval process, Pride of Britain Hotels has become a recognised authority on one-of-a-kind hospitality experiences. Each membership application begins with a mystery guest assessment by an existing member. Unannounced, the hotelier will scrutinise the hotel against a long list of must-haves. It is only if the hotel exceeds expectations that the membership board will even consider their application. Prestigious and selective, Pride of Britain typically only accepts two to four new members each year. Members are subject to regular assessment visits and guests are openly encouraged to provide feedback – good and bad – to ensure that only the finest hotels retain membership.
A spokesperson from Pride of Britain Hotels said:
“Outstanding hospitality is a common thread that runs through all our member hotels, and guests will experience this in all the Pride of Britain Hotels. Each hotel has its own distinctive style and character but all are run by people with a passion for great hospitality, verging on the obsessional.”
Such dedication to quality and passion for hospitality is certainly something that we identify with and Laura Stanworth, Business Development Manager here at The Headland, cannot think of an organisation whose values are better aligned to our own:
“We know that time is valuable and trips away are precious. When we applied to Pride of Britain Hotels we did so because all the properties are tried and tested by world-class hoteliers, so guests can be assured that they’ll love them. This is exactly what we believe in – genuine, heartfelt hospitality that always exceeds expectations.”
Darryl Reburn, General Manager, is beyond delighted that we have been inspected and approved. 2016 has been an impressive year for The Headland. As well as becoming a member of the prestigious ‘Pride of Britain’ collection, we have also been named as one of the best places to work in the country, the AA awarded us four Silver Stars and a Rosette for dining, and we retained our Five Bubble rating from the Good Spa Guide.
Go ‘Team Headland’!
“It’s such a wonderful achievement for us to have been recognised as a hotel serving such high levels of hospitality that we can sit among this exceptional collection of properties. I cannot think of an industry that is prouder of its wares, or more willing to share with one another. I very much look forward to working with Pride of Britain and building a lasting collaboration with other member hotels.”
